Lethargy and nine-year nightmare for 240 former employees of one of the jewels of the luxury hotel sector in Marbella, the Hotel Don Miguel is about to end . The Magna Hotels & Resorts, owner of the building since 2012 , announced yesterday that international group will undertake a total renovation of the tourist infrastructure to open it as five star hotels and luxury shopping center , 2016 maximum.

So said the company in a statement yesterday that said the engineering and bidding documents are in “its final stage of preparation .” The projects developed so far by Magna Hotels & Resorts feature modern hotel designs and some of the features that will be part of the new Palace Hotel Magna bid as once called open its doors to the public .

Thus the old Don Miguel , who before closing had 550 rooms , will offer 300 rooms and 73 deluxe suites with sea and African coast. Similarly, the project managing the company plans to create an international shopping center of 22,000 square meters in which there will be a representation of some of the most exclusive brands worldwide .

The new complex will also house twelve gourmet restaurants, one with panoramic views situated on the top floor , a business center with several meeting rooms , 50,000 square feet of spa and gym , a cinema of 5,000 square meters and a disco 1,750 square meters.

It is an ambitious project whose works , according to the company forward in its statement , will begin in the second quarter of 2014 . The intention is that the work completed in 2015 or 2016. During this process, Magna Hotels & Resorts plans to create a total of 1,500 jobs and 600 , once the reopening occurs.

This is the first draft of Magna Hotels and Resorts in Spain with the aim to give a ” great economic boost for the city of Marbella , as well as the great ability to attract customers from all over the world ,” they explain .

The secretary general of the Federation of Commerce, Catering and Tourism of Andalusia CCOO , Gonzalo Fuentes, who participated from 2004 in labor negotiations after the closure of Don Miguel , moved that Magna Hotels plans to invest over 50 million euros in this project ” it seems very important and positive” she said.
